Each year the Family Support Network of Eastern North Carolina recognizes an individual and/or an organization for their contribution of time and expertise in furthering our mission. This year the Board of Directors recognized three individuals during the annual Family Support Network Festival of Trees.
On December 3, 2010, the Family Support Network of Eastern North Carolina had the honor of recognizing the families of two individuals who had affected the lives of many in eastern North Carolina over the years.
Dr. Jean Hood – Dr. Charles Daeschner accepted the Family Support Network Heart Award in memory of his wife, Dr. Jean Hood. Dr. Hood was a geneticist who had a heart for the children and families with whom she worked. With her caring attitude, she was an example to others, whether she was giving bad news or updating families on what to expect next, she did so with a gentle word. Dr. Hood served on the Family Support Network of Eastern NC Board of Directors in 1991-1993.
Michael Dixon Sr. – Mrs. Dixon and Michael Dixon Jr. accepted the Family Support Network Heart award in memory of Michael Dixon Sr. The community and schools in Greenville, NC were a better place due to the continuous hard work and dedication of Mr. Dixon. Education, integrity and truth were attributes that exemplified Mr. Dixon’s life and for that, we honor his memory.
Homer Tyre Team – On December 3, 2010 the Family Support Network of Eastern North Carolina presented the Heart Award to the Homer Tyre Team at Prudential Prime Properties as the Business of the Year. When The Homer Tyre Team saw a need, they begin to work toward a solution. This year, they impacted over 160 children’s lives during the Christmas season in providing gifts and finding others who would partner with them in making Story Time with Santa a success.
